Folded garments beside a shipping box, ready for export to Austria.

We are a clothing manufacturer for Austrian brands: a family-run cut-and-sew knitwear floor in Narayanganj, Bangladesh, with a brand office in Amsterdam, making t-shirts, polos, hoodies, sweatshirts, joggers, shorts, activewear and loungewear from 100 pieces per style and colour. Austrian founders often arrive via our German page, and most of it holds, but two things do not: the VAT rate and the route. Germany charges 19% and has Hamburg; Austria charges 20% and has no coast.

The numbers: Bangladesh-made apparel enters the EU duty-free under Everything But Arms, and Austria charges import VAT at its Normalsteuersatz of 20% on the customs value plus any duty. We ship DDP, so that VAT is inside the price you approve rather than a separate assessment, and a UID-registered importer normally recovers it on the periodic return. Ask your Steuerberater how you want the import VAT handled and tell us before we file the entry.

The route is the part worth planning. A landlocked delivery is sea to a port plus road or rail to your door, and the choice of port changes the timing: Koper in Slovenia and Trieste in Italy sit on the Adriatic, a shorter sea leg from Suez, with Vienna and Graz a day's haul away; Hamburg is the alternative for western Austria and for brands that consolidate with German stock. We quote the whole chain to a Vienna, Graz, Linz or Innsbruck address, and Vienna airport handles air freight measured in days.

Labelling: German is Austria's official language, so fibre labels for the Austrian market are in German, which is the same label a German or Swiss range carries, and we sew it to your artwork. The General Product Safety Regulation adds the manufacturer's name and addresses on the product or packaging and an EU-established responsible operator, which an Austrian company importing from us is; our Amsterdam office can hold the technical file where that suits your structure.

What we make can carry GOTS organic cotton under certificate RSC 9687 with a transaction certificate for your order. What we do not make: denim, jackets and woven shirts, which our partner buying house in the same industrial area sources as a separate order. Our lead time is about 50 days from a confirmed order to handover, and the launch-date calculator counts back from your on-sale date.

If you are comparing Bekleidungshersteller options and finding mostly agents, apply the test we suggest everywhere: ask for the factory's street address, its BKMEA membership and a live video call from the floor during a working shift. Ours is Plot-A-132, Road No. 02, BSCIC Industrial Area, Panchabati, Narayanganj 1420. Our German-language page for Germany is at /clothing-manufacturer-for-german-brands/de if you would rather read the process in German; the numbers on this page are the Austrian ones.

Duties, VAT and origin for imports into Austria

Last verified: 21 September 2026, against the official sources listed under Sources below.

Austria applies the EU's common rules: a garment cut and sewn on our floor enters duty-free under Everything But Arms on a single-transformation origin rule, and Regulation (EU) 2026/1395 keeps that access for three years after Bangladesh graduates from LDC status. The Austrian part is the tax: the Unternehmensserviceportal states "Der 20-prozentige Steuersatz ist der Normalsteuersatz in Österreich", and clothing is not among the goods it lists for the 10% or 13% reduced rates.

On 500 tees at a US$6.00 customs value, US$3,000 in total, that is US$600 of import VAT and no duty, inside our DDP price. A UID-registered importer recovers it through the periodic return. Because Austria has no seaport, the customs entry is usually made at the EU port of arrival or at an Austrian inland customs office under transit; we set it up with your broker so the VAT is Austrian and recoverable by you.

Confirm the live position for your commodity code with your broker before pricing a range; we will state it for your order in writing, and the landed-cost calculator runs the arithmetic for any quantity.

Compliance and labelling for the Austrian market

Last verified: 21 September 2026, against the official sources listed under Sources below.

Fibre composition follows Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011: every fibre by generic name and percentage in descending order on a durable, legible label. Article 16(3) lets each member state require its official language on garments sold there, and the Commission's Your Europe guidance puts it plainly: translate the label into all the official national languages where the product is made available to the consumer. German is Austria's official language, so labels for Austria are in German. We sew labels to your artwork, in more languages if you sell across the Union. Country of origin is not required by that regulation, though the customs declaration states it and any origin claim you print must be true. Austria applies the regulation through its Textilkennzeichnungsverordnung 1993; the RIS legal database was not reachable when we checked on 21 September 2026, so we cite the EU guidance for the language rule and the ordinance by name.

Since 13 December 2024 the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 requires an EU-established responsible economic operator, the manufacturer's name and postal and electronic address on the product or packaging, a risk analysis and technical documentation kept for ten years; a company importing from us in Austria is that operator, and GOTS certificate RSC 9687 supplies the fibre, chemistry and traceability evidence behind the file. REACH Annex XVII entry 43 bans azo dyes that release listed aromatic amines above 30 mg/kg in textiles worn against the skin, and EN 14682 governs cords and drawstrings on children's clothing; the GPSR guide walks through the file.

Looking ahead, the Commission plans the ESPR textile delegated act carrying the Digital Product Passport for apparel for adoption in late 2027 with at least 18 months' transition, so the passport is not a 2026 obligation.

Shipping, Incoterms, time zones and the Amsterdam office

We quote DDP, delivered duty paid, to any Austrian address: sea freight to Koper, Trieste or Hamburg, the onward road or rail leg, the customs entry, the import VAT and delivery inside one landed price, with the commercial invoice, packing list and statement on origin sent to you before the goods move. We confirm the transit for the port and inland route we propose with the quote rather than print a figure; air freight into Vienna is measured in days.

Bangladesh Standard Time is UTC+6 with no daylight saving, four to five hours ahead of Austria. Our floor works Sunday to Thursday, 09:00 to 18:00, so your morning overlaps our afternoon, and our Amsterdam office, in your time zone, covers the rest of the day for design conversations, samples and compliance paperwork, in German or English.

LDC graduation: the verified position

Last verified: 21 September 2026, against the official sources listed under Sources below.

Bangladesh is scheduled to graduate from UN Least Developed Country status on 24 November 2026. In February 2026 it asked for an extension; the UN Committee for Development Policy said one would be appropriate provided reforms continue, and in July 2026 the Economic and Social Council referred the request to the General Assembly (UN LDC portal). No General Assembly decision had been published when we checked on 21 September 2026, and the 2029 date in press reports is the requested date, not a decided one.

For a Austrian order the consequence is bounded: Regulation (EU) 2026/1395 keeps Everything But Arms for three years after whichever graduation date lands, so duty-free access runs to at least the end of 2029 on the current timetable. Import VAT is unaffected by any of it. What follows that window depends on whether Bangladesh qualifies for GSP+, which is genuinely unresolved; our LDC graduation guide sets out the scenarios.

Questions about clothing manufacturing for Austrian brands, answered

Do I pay import duty on clothing from Bangladesh to Austria?

No, at present. Bangladesh-made apparel enters every EU member state duty-free under Everything But Arms, on a single-transformation origin rule that our cut-and-sew floor satisfies. Bangladesh is scheduled to graduate from LDC status on 24 November 2026 (an extension is requested and a UN decision pending), and Regulation (EU) 2026/1395 keeps EBA for three years after graduation, so to at least the end of 2029 on the current date. Verified 21 September 2026; we confirm the live position for every order.

How much is Austrian import VAT on clothing?

Austria's Normalsteuersatz is 20%, charged at import on the customs value plus any duty; with zero duty that is 20% of the customs value, so US$600 on a US$3,000 order. We ship DDP so it is inside the price you approve, and a UID-registered business recovers it on its periodic return. The 10% and 13% reduced rates apply to listed goods such as food and books, not to clothing. Germany's rate is 19%, which is why the German page shows a different number.

How do goods reach Austria if it has no port?

By sea to a port and then by road or rail, and we plan both legs. Koper in Slovenia and Trieste in Italy are on the Adriatic, a shorter sea leg from Suez, with Vienna and Graz about a day's haul away; Hamburg suits western Austria and brands that consolidate with German stock. The customs entry is made at the port of arrival or at an Austrian inland office under transit, set up with your broker so the VAT is Austrian. Air freight lands at Vienna in days.

Should I use your German page instead?

Read it for the German-language version of our process, but price from this one. The German page states Germany's 19% VAT and a Hamburg sea route; Austria charges 20% and needs an inland leg from Koper, Trieste or Hamburg. Labels are the same, in German, so a range sold in both countries carries one label. If you sell mainly in Germany, use that page; if you sell in Austria, this page has the right numbers.

What's your minimum order?

One hundred pieces per style, per colour. For an Austrian first range most brands land on three to five hundred pieces across two or three styles, enough to justify the GPSR compliance work once and reuse it on reorders. Splitting a hundred pieces across several colours triggers separate dye lots and prices accordingly, so one colour deep beats three shallow. Our free MOQ calculator models the split.

How long does delivery to Austria take?

About ten days for sampling, forty to fifty days for production once the pre-production sample is signed off, then transit: sea to Koper, Trieste or Hamburg plus a road or rail leg to your address, which we confirm with the quote, or air freight into Vienna in days. We ship DDP, so the entry, the VAT and delivery are handled on our side and you receive one landed cost and one delivery. The launch-date calculator counts back from your on-sale date.
