We are a clothing manufacturer for Icelandic brands: a family-run cut-and-sew knitwear floor in Narayanganj, Bangladesh, with a brand office in Amsterdam, making t-shirts, polos, hoodies, sweatshirts, joggers, shorts, activewear and loungewear from 100 pieces per style and colour. Iceland is the one European market on this site that is not in the European Union, and that changes the paperwork, so this page is written from the Icelandic rules rather than the EU ones.

Start with the good news on duty. Iceland is not in the EU customs union, so the Everything But Arms scheme that gets our goods into Germany or Spain duty-free does not apply here. It does not need to: Iceland abolished tariffs on consumer goods, and its own customs tariff shows no duty in the general rate column for knitted apparel. In other words the rate is zero because it is zero for everyone, not because of a preference that could expire. Bangladesh's LDC graduation therefore changes nothing for an Icelandic importer, which is a claim we cannot make about any other market on this site.

The tax is VSK at 24%, Iceland's standard rate, charged at importation along with any other import charges. We ship DDP, so it sits inside the price you approve rather than arriving as a separate bill, and a VSK-registered importer recovers it in the normal way. Confirm your commodity code and the current rates with your broker or Iceland Revenue and Customs before you price a range; the tariff edition we read is dated 2022, and we will state the position for your order in writing.

Routing: there is no direct sailing from Chattogram to Reykjavík, so the goods transship at a northern European hub, usually Rotterdam or Hamburg, onto an Eimskip or Samskip service into Sundahöfn. Keflavík handles air freight in days when a launch date is tight. We plan and price the whole chain rather than hand you a port, and we confirm the transit with the quote.

Labelling and compliance: Iceland is in the European Economic Area, and the EU textile fibre-names regulation was incorporated into the EEA Agreement by Joint Committee Decision 158/2012, in force for the EEA EFTA states from 1 May 2013, so the fibre-composition rules you would meet in the EU apply here too. Language practice in Iceland is Icelandic, English or another Nordic language depending on the product; confirm what your retailer and Neytendastofa expect, and we sew that combination. We build the same technical file we build for EU customers, with GOTS certificate RSC 9687 behind the fibre and chemistry evidence.

What we do not make: denim, jackets, woven shirts and, worth saying in this market, traditional Icelandic wool knitwear, which belongs to the people who make it. Our floor is cotton and cotton-blend jersey, terry and fleece. Woven pieces are sourced through our partner buying house as a separate order. Ask for our street address, our BKMEA membership and a live video call from the floor: Plot-A-132, Road No. 02, BSCIC Industrial Area, Panchabati, Narayanganj 1420.

Zero duty, and it stays zero

Iceland's own tariff carries no duty on knitted apparel as a general rate, not a preference, so LDC graduation does not put it at risk.

24% VSK, quoted inside the price

Charged at importation and recoverable by a registered importer; we ship DDP so it sits inside the landed price you approve.

EEA rules, not guesswork

The EU fibre-labelling regulation applies through the EEA Agreement, and we build the same technical file we build for EU customers.

Low MOQ — from 100 pieces

A small home market does not need a large first run: 100 pieces per style, per colour, cut and sewn to your pattern.

Duty, VSK and origin for imports into Iceland

Last verified: 21 September 2026, against the official sources listed under Sources below.

Iceland sets its own tariff, so the EU's Everything But Arms scheme does not apply. It does not need to: Iceland Revenue and Customs publishes the customs tariff, and in the edition we read, the 2022 English text, the headings for knitted apparel in Chapter 61 carry 0 in Column A, the general rate that applies to all imported goods unless Column E's European Economic Area provisions apply. The US International Trade Administration's country guide, dated 1 April 2026, states the same thing in words: Iceland eliminated tariffs on consumer goods including clothing in 2016 and 2017.

The tax is VSK. Iceland Revenue and Customs states that the standard rate of VAT in Iceland is 24%, with a reduced rate of 11%, and that the importation of goods is taxable with VAT payable at the time of importation by the owner of the goods. On 500 tees at a US$6.00 customs value, US$3,000 in total, that is roughly US$720, inside our DDP price and recoverable by a registered importer in the normal way.

One consequence worth stating plainly: because the Icelandic rate for these goods is a general rate and not a preference, Bangladesh's LDC graduation in November 2026 does not threaten it. That is not true of any EU market, where the zero rate rests on Everything But Arms. Confirm your commodity code and the current figures with your broker before pricing a range, since the tariff edition we read is dated 2022.

Compliance and labelling for the Icelandic market

Last verified: 21 September 2026, against the official sources listed under Sources below.

Iceland is in the European Economic Area, so much of the EU product law you would meet elsewhere applies here through the EEA Agreement. Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 on textile fibre names was incorporated by Joint Committee Decision 158/2012 and has applied to the EEA EFTA states since 1 May 2013, so fibre composition is declared the same way: every fibre by generic name and percentage in descending order on a durable, legible label.

On language, practice in Iceland is Icelandic, English or another Nordic language depending on the product category, and the requirement is set nationally rather than by the fibre regulation. Confirm with your retailer and with Neytendastofa, the consumer agency, what your category needs; we sew whatever combination you specify, and an Icelandic and English label is the safe default for a range that also sells to visitors.

For product safety we build the same technical file we build for EU customers: a risk assessment, the manufacturer's identification and contact details, and traceability, with GOTS certificate RSC 9687 behind the fibre and chemistry evidence and REACH-aligned restrictions on azo dyes in the fabrics we buy. Whether the EU's General Product Safety Regulation itself applies in Iceland is a question for your own adviser, because EEA incorporation of newer acts is decided act by act, and we would rather say that than assert it.

Shipping, Incoterms and time zones

We quote DDP, delivered duty paid, to an address in Iceland: freight, the transshipment, the customs entry, the VSK and delivery inside one landed price, with the commercial invoice, packing list and statement on origin sent to you before the goods move. There is no direct service from Chattogram, so the goods transship at a northern European hub, usually Rotterdam or Hamburg, onto a service into Sundahöfn in Reykjavík; Keflavík handles air freight in days. We confirm the transit with the quote.

Bangladesh Standard Time is UTC+6 with no daylight saving and Iceland keeps UTC all year, so we are six hours ahead of Reykjavík. Our floor works Sunday to Thursday, 09:00 to 18:00, which puts our afternoon in your morning, and our Amsterdam office covers European hours for design conversations, samples and paperwork, in English.

Why LDC graduation does not change your position

Last verified: 21 September 2026, against the official sources listed under Sources below.

Every other European market on this site gets its zero duty from a preference. The EU's Everything But Arms scheme gives Bangladesh duty-free access, and Regulation (EU) 2026/1395 keeps it for three years after graduation, which the UN currently has scheduled for 24 November 2026 with an extension requested and no General Assembly decision published when we checked (UN LDC portal).

Iceland is different. The zero in Column A of its tariff is the general rate for knitted apparel from anywhere, so nothing about Bangladesh's status changes it. What that means practically is that an Icelandic brand can plan a multi-year range without the duty question hanging over it. The graduation guide sets out the scenarios for the markets where it does matter.

I have had a very good experience with this company. They are very friendly, professional, and provide fast service. They speak fluent English, which makes communication very easy. The quality of their manufacturing is excellent. I have no doubt in recommending this company to anyone looking for a reliable manufacturing partner in Bangladesh.

Questions about clothing manufacturing for Icelandic brands, answered

Do I pay customs duty on clothing from Bangladesh to Iceland?

On the tariff we read, no. Iceland is outside the EU customs union, so the Everything But Arms scheme does not apply, but Iceland abolished tariffs on consumer goods and its own customs tariff shows 0 in Column A, the general rate, for the knitted apparel headings of Chapter 61. The US trade administration's country guide says the same in words. The edition we read is dated 2022, so confirm your commodity code with your broker or Iceland Revenue and Customs; we state the position for your order in writing.

How much is VSK on an import?

Iceland's standard VAT rate is 24%, with a reduced rate of 11% for food, books and certain necessities that does not cover clothing. Iceland Revenue and Customs states that importation is taxable and the VAT is payable at the time of importation by the owner of the goods, so roughly US$720 on a US$3,000 consignment. We ship DDP, so it is inside the price you approve, and a registered importer recovers it in the normal way.

Does Bangladesh's LDC graduation affect Icelandic imports?

No, and that is unusual. In the European Union the zero duty on our goods comes from the Everything But Arms preference, which Regulation (EU) 2026/1395 keeps for three years after graduation. In Iceland the zero is the general tariff rate for knitted apparel from any origin, so nothing about Bangladesh's status changes it. An Icelandic brand can plan a multi-year range without the duty question hanging over it.

Which language should the labels be in?

Practice in Iceland is Icelandic, English or another Nordic language depending on the product category, and that requirement is national rather than part of the fibre regulation, so confirm what your category needs with your retailer and with Neytendastofa. The fibre-composition rules themselves are the EU ones, incorporated into the EEA Agreement in 2012 and in force for Iceland since May 2013. We sew whatever combination you specify; Icelandic plus English is the safe default for a range that also sells to visitors.

How do the goods get to Reykjavík?

Through a northern European hub. There is no direct sailing from Chattogram, so the container travels via Suez to Rotterdam or Hamburg and transships onto a feeder service into Sundahöfn, and we plan and price that whole chain rather than hand you a port. Keflavík handles air freight in days if a launch date is tight. We confirm the transit with the quote, because schedules and the Red Sea routing both move.

Do you make Icelandic wool sweaters?

No, and we would not pretend to. Our floor cuts and sews cotton and cotton-blend jersey, French terry and fleece: tees, hoodies, sweatshirts, joggers, shorts and activewear. Traditional Icelandic wool knitwear belongs to the people who make it, and a lopapeysa is not a garment to outsource to Bangladesh. If your range mixes both, make the wool at home and let us handle the cotton basics.
