This page exists because something changed very recently, and most sourcing content hasn't caught up yet. On 4 August 2026, Korea's Trade Minister and Bangladesh's Commerce Minister jointly announced the conclusion, in principle, of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries — covering close to 97% of Bangladeshi goods, with ready-made garments explicitly named as one of the industries set to benefit. A clothing manufacturer for South Korean brands sourcing from Bangladesh is watching this deal move from negotiation to reality in real time.
We'll be precise about the stage this is actually at, because the distinction matters and most coverage blurs it: 'concluded in principle' means the negotiating teams have agreed on substance, not that the treaty is signed, ratified and in force. Japan's separate EPA with Bangladesh went from 'agreement in principle' (December 2025) to a full signing (6 February 2026) in about seven weeks; Korea's CEPA is at the earlier of those two stages as we publish this. We'd rather tell you honestly where the process stands than imply a finished tariff schedule that isn't real yet.
Until CEPA preferences take legal effect, Bangladesh's apparel exports to Korea currently move under Korea's own GSP scheme for least-developed countries, which has historically covered the large majority of tariff lines duty-free for LDCs — meaningfully better than Korea's standard MFN apparel rate of roughly 8–13%. Bangladesh's scheduled LDC graduation on 24 November 2026 is itself under a live UN process that may push the date to 2029 (a UN Committee for Development Policy recommendation, forwarded to the General Assembly in July 2026, still awaiting a final vote) — which, combined with the CEPA moving through ratification, means Korea's numbers for Bangladesh-origin apparel are genuinely in motion right now, in a good direction.
Korea's VAT is 10%, charged on the customs value at the border regardless of the duty question. On 500 tees at a $6.00 landed cost at the border ($3,000 total), that's $300. We ship DDP and quote the current, honest position at order time rather than a number that assumes a treaty is further along than it is — from a genuine 100-piece minimum with GOTS-certified organic fabric available.

Korea's continued preferential treatment for Bangladesh after the scheduled 24 November 2026 graduation has depended on bilateral negotiation rather than an automatic extension — which is precisely why the CEPA, concluded in principle on 4 August 2026, matters: it's Korea and Bangladesh negotiating a replacement framework ahead of that date rather than leaving it to chance. Separately, a UN process may push the actual graduation date to 24 November 2029, which — if it lands before the CEPA is fully ratified — would give both sides more runway. We're tracking both threads and will keep this page current as either resolves.

One hundred pieces per style, per colour — the same floor as every market we ship to. For a South Korean first order, most brands land on three to five hundred pieces across two or three styles, enough to justify a proper production run without the per-colour split working against you: three hundred tees in one colourway is a single fabric and dye lot, while a hundred each in three colours is three separate lots and prices accordingly. Sampling takes about ten days, bulk production forty to fifty days once the pre-production sample is approved, then freight on top. Sea freight to Korea is comparatively fast given the shipping lanes between South and East Asia, typically landing at Busan or Incheon within three to four weeks of leaving Chattogram, often via a transshipment hub like Singapore or Colombo. Air freight adds roughly five to seven days door to door and suits a launch date or a first order where speed matters more than cost. We ship DDP either way, so VAT and clearance at the border are handled on our side.
